PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

I'm Ruthlene Chua Zhen Si, a resident design daydreamer pursuing a Bachelor of Design in Creative Media. Navigating the creative cosmos with the enthusiasm of a sloth every morning. Armed with a cup of Milo and a half-baked idea, I'm on a slow-motion journey through the design world. Let's see where my comfy chair takes me today.

PARAGRAPH 1

My passion is studying many kinds of design and fusing them together to create one amazing piece of art. It will thus take me some time to follow this road; however, I was fortunate to begin my adventure at Taylor School of Design, where I took the initial step toward discovering new artistic mediums.

PARAGRAPH 2

I'm not entirely sure what motivates me to achieve this dream, but the excitement of unraveling it is part of the fun. Perhaps it's the thrill of discovering uncharted territories or the joy of transforming chaos into a masterpiece. So, while the dream may be a bit fuzzy, the adventure is where the magic happens, and I'm all in for the ride, eager to uncover the motivation that will propel me toward realizing my dream.

SUMMARY

Stepping inside my imagination of producing a masterpiece, I see a colorful painting with many design shapes blending together to create a beautiful symphony. Every stroke is a different discipline that blends together to create a rainbow of color. The goal of the artwork is to create feelings in viewers and take them on an imaginative trip. The journey of discovery, experimentation, and the search for creative expression are what bring delight even when the final destination is still unknown.

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

We are required to produce a self-titled project that integrates the three design concepts we have studied this semester: digital photography, typography, and illustration and visual narrative. It's nearing Christmas, therefore I want to construct a project with a Christmas theme.

PARAGRAPH 1

My aim was to produce a charming and nostalgic Christmas theme impact that evokes a sense of happiness and festive celebrations, offering chances for entertainment, pleasure, and leisure.

PARAGRAPH 2

People who don't really celebrate Christmas or don't know much about it are the ones I want to introduce to the holiday spirit.

SUMMARY

Christmas isn’t a season, it’s a feeling.

Elements Create, Applied effect & editing

At first I start my artwork by drawing some illustrations (using Ai):

Figure 1.0: Christmas Cake

Figure 1.1: Present 1

Figure 1.2: Present 2
Figure 1.3: Present 3
Figure 1.4: Ribbon

Figure 1.4: Snowman

Then I do some research on more elements of Christmas, including green screen videos,  images from Pinterest etc.

Figure 1.5: Candy cane

Figure 1.6: Ginger bread man

Figure 1.7: Toy train photo taken in a shop

Figure 1.8: Snow Video

Figure 1.9: Penguin Video

Figure 2.0 : Aurora

Figure 2.1 : Background image

Furthermore, we are requested to use the font family which we created on Typography classes.

Figure 2.2: Dia font (self create)

After every elements are prepared, I combine all of them into a poster in the Ps, this is the result:

Figure 2.3: Before applying Dia Font

Figure 2.4: After applying Dia Font

Figure 2.4: Remove background and use double exposure effect to apply it into the snow globe

After everything is done at ps, I convert everything to ae:

  • Use opacity effect to make blinking effect of certain letters.

Figure 2.5 : Apply blinking effect on the word "DING DONG"

  • So does the aurora, I applied the blinking effect after I successfully remove it's background and double exposure it into the snow globe

Figure 2.6 : Apply blinking effect on the aurora

  • I apply hand waving effect on the candy cane by doing adjustment on its position and Rotation

Figure 2.7: Apply waving effect on the candy cane

  • Apply flag wave effect to the ribbon

Figure 2.8 : Apply wave warp effect

Figure 2.9 : Flag wave effect
  • As for the snowman, I make it looks like stumble and fall just for fun :)
  • (Position and rotation adjusted)

Figure 3.0 : Falling effect for the snowman

  • I applied popping out effect for each of the present by controlling their position and scale

Figure 3.1 : Popping effect for the present

Figure 3.2 : Present popping out
  • Insert audio for the entire video, I find the audio online. I adjust the scale to let it more fit to the video effect

Figure 3.3 : Insert Audio

  • The green screen video that I found, I adjusted the screen color to green by using the waterdrop

Figure 3.4 : Remove green scree from the video
  • After removed the green scree, this is what turns out

PART 3: FINAL POSTER

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: The Taste Of Christmas

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I included a lot of Christmas aspects in my self-titled artwork. "The taste of Christmas" alludes to the fragrances and tastes of classic holiday foods and treats that are relished throughout the festive season. Consequently, I utilize a snow globe that has a Christmas cake inside of it, along with several Christmas ornaments, toys, and seasonal candies like candy canes for the cake's tiers and decorating. Presenting an engaging and eye-catching video to the viewers is my goal. in an effort to spread the Christmas cheer. Using methods I learned in class and other editing techniques I found online, I utilized Adobe Edge to animate the Christmas motifs, adding more vigor to the overall artwork. In a nutshell, Christmas is a season when people try to live in harmony and togetherness, putting aside their differences and uniting in a spirit of understanding and peace.

REFLECTIONS

We must use our combined expertise in typography, illustration visualization, and digital photography to complete this job. While making this specific film, I've come to the realization that I'm essentially taking a serious look back at all I've learned this semester. During this process, we acquire new skills and approaches as well since it calls for more than just design expertise—we also need to be trained and grasp our goals in order to accomplish them. We are compelled to acquire new abilities in order to produce a masterpiece that embodies both our knowledge and our spirit of active learning. I'm pleased that this project allows us to be more creative with our work and gives us the chance to self-title. Since it was approaching Christmas when this assignment was released, I decided to give it a Christmassy design in the hopes of spreading the joy of the holiday. I used a lot of Christmas-themed components and seasonal effects when designing the entire piece. My inexperience with Adobe Animate means that I will find the AE animation process very difficult. It's evident that in order to become more used to AE, I should study more about it. I tried something different with this artwork, which is the most unusual way to merge three design components. I'm hoping for something difficult like this assignment in the future to significantly enhance my design abilities.
