Final Project
After completing the research, data collection, attending all lectures and tutorials, and presenting a comprehensive proposal and research data, students are expected to create visual design outcomes that reflect their interpretation of the assigned theme.

Week 6 Project Progression
Before beginning to create our mockup, we intend to present our rationale and palette. Although people often associate yokai with being frightening and threatening, we want to switch things up with a cute and simple bento box design.

  • Digitization
For the name of the bento box, we used the way of voting to choose out the final name which is called "Yo Bento". Six recognizable yokai in a sweet "kawaii" style, representing depth and mystery in Japanese folklore, are featured on the Yo Bento box cover. The hexagonal form is based on conventional patterns and reflects their positions. Within, three-yokai-shaped barriers divide the dishes, representing the harmonious form and balance of Japanese design. Efficiency as well as aesthetic are both improved by a center hole. To emphasize the significance of yokai and add some sense of surprise, the lid features drawings of these legendary animals, beginning with a kappa. All in all, the design exhibits the detailed, adorable "yokai" style.

Following our research, we acquired significant understanding regarding the rationale behind Japanese Bento Box designs:

For the black color, it signifies elegance, simplicity, and formality. The red color is often linked with happiness, good fortune, and celebratory occasions in Japanese tradition. Choosing a red bento box could convey a sense of festivity or auspiciousness.

Lighter colors such as pastel green and yellow facilitate the identification of stains or remaining food, thereby promoting cleanliness and hygiene.

Consequently, we have adopted an exterior color scheme consisting of black and red, while the interior incorporates green and yellow shades to enhance visual appeal and cultural significance.

  • Box Expended View
Our next step after designing the layout was to measure the width and length of the bento box lid to make room for the internal space.

  • Mock-up
We made mock-ups out of paper cards so we could see how the design would fit and work within the bento box.  Before opting for paper cards, we attempted to use clay for the mock-up but found it too soft and difficult to dry. Paper cards proved to be a simpler and more effective option for creating a similar mock-up. Through careful measurement and prototyping, we established the foundation for bringing our imaginative ideas to life with precision and efficiency.

  • Final Outcome
We used Buncho water colors to color the bento box's exterior once the design was finalized, creating an interesting and eye-catching touch. We then enhanced the lid's visual appeal by printing our carefully created artwork and attaching it inside. We reserve the design studio to take pictures of Yo Bento and all of its exquisite details, including up-close views that highlight its beauty, in order to fully convey the essence of our product.

  • Physical Consultation
Ms. Anis provided us with helpful suggestions after the Intercultural Design Lecture, suggesting that a stop-motion video showcasing the bento box and what's inside should be developed. We started this creative project after being inspired by her advice, carefully planning and taking pictures of every frame to make Yo Bento look vibrant and lifelike. Our proposal gained depth and character from this multimedia approach, which also highlighted its creative design and delectable cuisine.

Next, our goal was to make a stop-motion film that, in addition to showcasing the bento box's intricate intricacies, also emphasized the mouthwatering food within by means of lively storytelling ; hence, we created a mood board narrative.

Feedbacks

Week 6
Ms. Anis expressed satisfaction with the mock-up project's quick progress and offered a creative suggestion: making a film that highlights Yo Bento. She advised showcasing the mouthwatering meals inside as well as using close-up images to draw attention to its features. Her proposal inspired us, and we jumped at the chance to create Stop Motion Videos.

Reflections

Experience
Our collaborative project exemplified the strength of teamwork, dedication, and effective task management from the initial stages of brainstorming to the final execution. Each team member played a vital role, contributing expertise and skills in an environment of open communication and mutual respect. Crafting the Yo Bento mock-up was a valuable learning experience, incorporating input from all members and ensuring the highest quality through pre- and post-production discussions. Overall, the project fostered growth, progress, and successful outcomes through collective effort and collaboration.

Observation
Our work path showed the value of perseverance and adjusting as we overcame a number of obstacles, especially when it came to sourcing materials and choosing a color palette for the bento box. Acknowledging the importance of color in Japanese culture, we gave considerable thought to how colors would affect Yo Bento's presentation and how they affect how food looks. Despite these obstacles, our unity, commitment, and efficient task management kept going, encouraging our creative investigation and improving our design through the use of digitization technologies and mock-up experiments. In the end, our team's combined efforts produced a beneficial outcome that not only promoted development but also strengthened the ties of cooperation among us.

Findings
In conclusion, our project journey has been characterized by teamwork, dedication, and effective problem-solving. We encountered challenges, particularly in material sourcing and color selection for the bento box, but our perseverance and adaptability allowed us to overcome them. Embracing the cultural significance of color in Japanese tradition, we carefully considered its impact on Yo Bento's presentation and food aesthetics. Despite setbacks, our unity, commitment, and efficient task management propelled us forward, resulting in a successful outcome. Our experience highlights the importance of resilience and collaboration in achieving goals, and it has been a valuable learning opportunity for all involved.
