Reflections
Working on Design Research Methodology RES60604 was an
interesting and satisfying effort. Interest of animation and a question about
why traditional techniques still relevant today drove me to decide to
concentrate on "Exploring the Enduring Significance of Traditional
Animation in the Digital Age". Writing the study proposal was interesting
but difficult as it forced me to examine closely past works and grasp the
background of my subject.
Particularly insightful were reading papers such as "Basis for a New Theory of Drawing Framework from Traditional Handmade to Modern Virtual Simulation" by Mauricio NOVOA and "Haptic Tactics: Incorporating Traditional Skills in the Digital Animation Studio". These readings sharpened my ability to analyze and helped me to see the way traditional and digital animation approaches interact.
Observations
My investigation turned up some rather significant
findings. One important realization was that the boundary between traditional
and digital animation is not as sharp as I had first assumed. Many animators
use traditional methods applied in digital processes to provide the best of
both worlds. The literature is full with discussions on this hybrid approach,
which emphasizes how conventional and digital knowledge cooperate.
I also found that developing creativity and fundamental animation abilities still depends on conventional animation. Traditional animation is praised for imparting discipline, accuracy, and a thorough knowledge of movement even with the modern advanced tools at hand. Works of animators like Hayao Miyazaki, who keeps creating hand-drawn animation, clearly show this.
Feelings
My investigations produced some really important
results. First of all, there are certain characteristics of traditional
animation that computer animation cannot completely reproduce. These include
the practical engagement with materials, the hand-drawn frame workmanship, and
a unique aesthetic quality. These components help to explain the cultural
relevance and ongoing attraction of traditional animation.
Second, mixing digital methods with conventional
approaches increases inventiveness. Animators using both techniques get a more
flexible approach to their job and a wider skill set. This not only preserves
old talents but also generates more creative and varied animation
projects. Finally, the direction of animation depends on the preservation of
classic animation methods. Maintaining a link to conventional techniques helps
us to make sure that fundamental ideas aren't forgotten as digital animation
develops. Education that combines conventional and digital abilities will
assist upcoming animators develop into well-rounded professionals.
