LECTURE (Power Point) + Class Materials Reflection ( What I have learned )

Figure 1.0: Power Point for this Particular task

By incorporating all these additional aspects into the video editing workflow, It can help enhance the overall quality and effectiveness of the video projects.

Mixing sound elements (speech, sound effects, music) supports action and engages spectators.

  • Types of Sound Elements:

1. Speech/Dialogue

2. Sound Effects

    • Hard Sound Effects: Enhance specific actions/events (e.g., door creaking, glass breaking, gunshot).
    • Ambient Effects: Background noise to create environment/atmosphere (e.g., traffic, wind, crowd noise).

3.Music

  • Timeline and Syncing:
    • Place audio files on the timeline.
    • Sync audio with video.
  • Audio Track Allocation:
    • Dialogue: 3 tracks (one for each character).
    • Sound Effects: 4 tracks.
    • Ambience Sound: 3 tracks.
  • Voice Editing (Using Premiere Pro):
    • Edit voice gender or age:
      • Go to Premiere Pro → Audio Effects → Pitch Shifter → Semi tones.
  • Volume Settings:
    • Dialogue: Between -6dB and -12dB.
    • Ambience: Below -20dB.
    • Hard Sound Effects: Volume varies depending on context.

INSTRUCTION

CLASS SUMMARY

Week 3 : We are told to separate into groups of 6 and complete the audio dubbing sheets about all the sound effect, ambient sound, hard sound, scene, timeline etc. of the part of the movie ( Everything, Everywhere all at Once". This movement help us to different ship and also have better understanding what are we going for, and what assistant material that we need for the following task. We are told to record our own voice by using our phone to record the dialog for this task.

Week 4:  For this week, Mr. Martin told us how to edit the video ( adding sound effect, transition , volume level, speeding, duration , adjustment on tuning male voice into women; women into male voice) by showing the previous student task work. He did give some brief for this project, the caution part and also what we should submit in the following week.

Week 9: Prepare all stop mmotion materials for next week shooting.

TASK

Week 4:Editing on "Everything, everywhere, all at once"

We are required to audio dubbing all the dialog for this part for movie film, add on the sound effect, transition , volume level, speeding, duration , adjustment on tuning male voice into women; women into male voice. Complete the editing without adding any background music.

This is the sheet that we should complete before starting the video editing, we done this in groups while in class.
Figure a.1: Audio dubbing the dialog for " Everything, Everywhere, All at Once"

After done the audio dubbing sheet, we can clearly confirmed all the sound effect, ambient voice and hard sound we are going to use during the editing. Therefore, we are provided a support link on where to find the sound effect, download and import them into Premium Pro.

Figure a.2: Audio effect, hard sound & ambient sound founded

Furthermore, we are require to record our own voice for the dialog in the video.

Figure a.3: Record own voice, reading out the dialog by using mobile phone

Extract own voice out and save it into the computer and import to Premium Pro.

Figure a.4: Download and import

After insert all the dialog and sound effect into the video, I started to add on some audio transition on the audio to make the voice join and combine with the movie more smoothly.

Figure a.5: Adding Constant Power audio transition to some of the audio

Then, I add on all the additional ambient sound into the video.

Audio track:
  • 3 tracks for dialogue, one character one track.
  • 4 tracks for sound effects,
  • 3 tracks for ambience sound.
Figure a.6: Clearly different ship all the audio track, into 343

I make some adjustment on the dialog sound of mine, to match the voice of the character in the video. I adjusted the semi tones lower to follow the example of the men's voice. For the rest of the dialog, I do also make some changes, to make different characteristic voice, make clear conversation of the characteristic , avoid chaotic hearing to the audience.

Exercise 02_Sound Shaping

For this particular exercise, we are told to edit audio using Adobe Audition.
  • To create a phone voice sound effect
    • Use the Parametric Equalizer under Filter & EQ in the effect rack
    • Lower Bass and Treble
    • Raise Mid Range between 500Hz to 2kHz
  • To create a muffled sound effect:
    • Keep Bass the same
    • Lower Treble to the bottom
    • Raise Mid Range
  • To create echo sound effects:
    • Apply Reverb

Reverb sound effects:
  • Decay Time:
    • Specifies how many milliseconds the reverb takes to decay 60 dB.Longer values give longer reverb tails.
  • Pre‑Delay Time:
    • Specifies how many milliseconds the reverb takes to build to its maximum amplitude.
  • Perception:
    • Simulates irregularities in the environment
  • Dry:
    • To add subtle spaciousness, set the Dry percentage higher; to achieve a special effect, set the Dry percentage lower.
  • Wet:
    • To add subtle spaciousness to a track, keep the Wet percentage lower than the Dry percentage.
Exercise 2

For the next exercise, we needed to record our own voice for 5 seconds.
  1. Voice of phone call.
  2. Voice coming from inside of the closet.
  3. Voice of toilet/bathroom.
  4. Underground cave.
  5. Alien/ Orc voice

FEEDBACK

Week 3 - Preparation for project 2
Specific Feedback: -
General Feedback: Please recode your own voice for the dialog for the movie in a silent and propriate place, which there is no echo or noisy sounds to have better sound extract.

Week 4 - Video editing on "Everything, everywhere, all at once "
Specific Feedback: -
General Feedback: Before start editing any of the sound effect or ambient sound, please add on every of them, just came edit it. Review all the instruction that have been told in the power point slides for further information.

REFLECTION ( Specific for this project)

Throughout this task, I have gained significant insights into the intricate process of video editing, particularly focusing on audio dubbing and the integration of sound elements. This reflection captures my learning journey, detailing the techniques and principles applied to enhance the overall quality and effectiveness of video projects. By applying these principles and techniques, I have developed a deeper appreciation for the art of video editing and the critical role of sound in creating compelling visual stories.
