REFLECTION

Experience 

This semester’s journey in the Design Research Dissertation module has been both challenging and transformative. Coming into this module after completing the previous one, I was determined to maintain my effort and commitment, even though research and writing have never been my strongest suit. Initially, I was apprehensive about my ability to navigate this module successfully, as research has always been an area where I felt less confident. However, the guidance and encouragement from our tutor, Dr. Noorhayati, played a significant role in helping me stay on track. Her consistent feedback, patience, and genuine support gave me the clarity and confidence to overcome moments of doubt and confusion. Reflecting on this journey, I am grateful for the personal growth and skills I have gained. Beyond academic learning, this module strengthened my problem-solving abilities, time management, and attention to detail. The workload was overwhelming at times, especially when juggling multiple assignments, but perseverance and adaptability proved to be key.  

Observation

Through my research on exploring the enduring significance of traditional animation in the digital era, I gained a deeper understanding of how traditional methods continue to inspire and shape modern practices. One of the most rewarding aspects was seeing my efforts culminate in the design and production of a publication. The process highlighted the delicate balance between creativity and clarity, showing how visual design enhances content engagement and readability. As the semester progressed, I noticed how compiling my work at the end revealed the breadth of my accomplishments. The structured approach to research, from idea development to presenting findings, emphasized the importance of persistence. Moreover, the iterative nature of feedback and revisions allowed me to refine my ideas and produce a more polished outcome.  

Findings

This module taught me the importance of academic writing, especially in crafting a well-structured dissertation. I learned how to present arguments effectively with supporting evidence and gained a deeper understanding of citation and referencing styles. Properly crediting sources not only strengthened the credibility of my work but also underscored the importance of academic integrity. Additionally, I discovered the value of visual design in publication. Effective design requires balancing simplicity with creativity to ensure content remains accessible and engaging. This newfound appreciation for the role of design has enhanced my understanding of how visuals can complement and elevate written content.  This module has been a testament to resilience and growth. It has shown me that stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to unexpected achievements, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have developed both academically and creatively.
