TASK

Week 1: Watch 3 stop motion short, share 3 of the favorited

Video links:

  1. Archie and his pet dog go on a long journey.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c9wtTqMT0E
  2. Out of shape: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYD47kEPmug
  3. Toby the Toad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tExLH0QqUqY

Extra three movie, base on stop motion short:

1. Shaun the Sheep (Program creators: Nick Park, Richard Starzak, David Fine)

  • Shaun the Sheep is a British stop-motion animated silent comedy children's television series which is developed by Aardman Animations.
  • Reason why I like this stop motion video:)
    • Stop-motion animation truly demands a great attention to detail in every frame.
    • In order to achieve consistency, realism, details in every character movement, and the background details, the animators responsible for this animation carefully built every figure, scene, and item.
    • The characters are realistic and fascinating to the viewers because of the animators' ability to capture a wide range of emotions in their movements, facial expressions, and body language.
    • The film's lightening methods add to its visual appeal by bringing individuals and environments to life in a realistic and fascinating way.

2. Frankenweenie (Director: Tim Burton, Story by: Tim Burton, Leonard Ripps )

  • Frankenweenie is a 2012 American 3D stop-motion animated science fiction horror comedy film
  • Reason why I like this stop motion video:)
    • Set pieces, props, and character designs are all carefully designed to create an aesthetically spectacular, persuasive, and imaginative universe.
    • Even though the movie is in black and white, the animator masterfully manipulates the shadows and lightning, which contributes to the grief, atmospheric tone.
    • In stop-motion animation, individual movements are recorded and the puppets are subtly modified in between shots.
    • The "Frankenweenie" characters come alive with meticulously crafted puppets, designed for expressive movements. The use of materials are fascinating and reasonable utilize add a boost on the entire films.  (Made from silicone, foam, and wire, these puppets boast intricate facial and bodily sculpting)

3. Kubo and the Two Strings (Director: Travis Knight Story by: Shannon Tindle; Marc Haimes )

  • Kubo and the Two Strings is a 2016 American stop-motion animated action fantasy film produced by Laika
  • Reason why I like this stop motion video:)
    • "Kuba and the Two Strings" boasts an impressive visual aesthetic, with a lively color scheme, captivating photography, and enchanting visuals.
    • "Despite stop-motion's challenges, 'Kubo and the Two Strings' showcases fluid, expressive character animation. Advanced techniques like rapid prototyping and 3D printing enable smooth movements and dynamic action, pushing the boundaries of the medium."
    • Armature rigging is used to give the puppets structure and support while allowing for fluid movement.
    • Creative camera angles and movements are employed to add dynamism to the animation.

Week 4: To indicate own prefer medium for the project

I prefer using clay to do the final at the moment, I might change my mind later . Something like the video bellow.

Proposal: I changed my mind and switch to create a more fun way of stop motion, which was the light and shadow stop motion.

At first, I created paper cut of hard boards in order to create shadows.

Then I setup the filming by switching of the lights and focusing on the walls, creating shadows.

REFLECTION

In project 2, encompassing shooting practice and creative editing, significantly enhanced my skills through practical tasks and collaborative efforts. Key learnings included meticulous planning, innovative editing, and effective use of lighting, all bolstered by insightful feedback from Mr. Martin. The exploration of stop-motion animation, led me to experiment with light and shadow techniques, culminating in a unique final project. This journey has deepened my understanding of video production, fueling my passion and preparing me for future creative endeavors.
