Reflections
Experience
This semester was quite tough and stressful compared to the first typography. I explored nine major typographic systems and got hands-on with Adobe InDesign. Creating my wordmark and working on various assignments taught me about contrast, form, and structure in visual communication. Each design choice reflected my skills and personality. Later in the semester, I focused on refining uppercase letter designs using Adobe Illustrator and FontLab 7, guided by feedback from online sessions.
Observation
Typography is like solving a puzzle, with each system presenting unique challenges. Understanding Gestalt principles like proximity and similarity helped improve my designs. The grid system was particularly useful for its versatility. Feedback from Mr. Vinod highlighted the balance between creativity and functionality, helping me develop my design identity. The influence of culture and history on typography was also clear, shaping how we perceive written communication. Consistent feedback emphasized the need for readable and functional designs.
Findings
This semester taught me that typographic systems are versatile tools for creating expressive designs. Feedback is crucial for refining compositions. Learning about the history and culture of typography enriched my design process. Mastering digital tools like Adobe InDesign and FontLab 7 helped me execute my ideas with precision. Simplifying designs for clarity without losing functionality was important. Overall, this semester deepened my understanding of design and helped me grow and know the importance of typography.
