INSTRUCTION

Class Summaries

Week 7: For this week we focus on visual elements like color, shape, tone, and movement bring stories to life.

Week 8:  Independent Study Week

Weeks 12–14: These weeks focused on getting feedback and making final tweaks to ensure everything was polished and ready to present

Project 3_Animatics

For this particular assignment, we are requires to create a 1 to 3 minute animatic storyboards based on your short animation from Project 1. First, sketch thumbnails and compile them into a PDF. Then, prepare a detailed storyboard with actions, audio, and effects, using arrows for camera work, and export it as a PDF. For the animatic, use editing software to animate panels, adjust timing, add transitions, and include audio.

In order to start my drawings for the project, i found few reference to help me with the project.

After deciding my character and the other elements for the project, I started to make a very rough sketch thumbnail's for the assignment. It was more clear to have arrow guide the speed and direction of the animation.

Then I drew out some of the scene that would be mention in the story.

I started to draw the storyboard by using illustrator, using simple color as the gradient shadow and speed appearance. I use canva to create the storyboard, as for the frames and panel number they are written clearly in the presentation file.

Bellow are the storyboard that i have drew:

I draw all the scene one by one in the illustrator and import it into the adobe animate, buts still the animation is not that stable. So I try again and draw a few more between the gaps to make it more smoother.

As I arranged the frames, I also improved the timing and spacing by adding more frames between each one to make the animation smoother and more natural. However, the downside was that as I added more frames, my computer began lagging severely and even restarted automatically, which was extremely frustrating.

After further adjustments and adding background music and sound effects, my computer lagged and was forced to shut down because of the system, but the project was finally completed :)

FEEDBACKS

Week 11:The storyboard for the animation is ready to move forward, but a few additional scenes could enhance it further.

REFLECTION

Experience

Doing the work in the animatic was an exciting and challenging experience at the same time. That started with the gathering of references through which the look and feel of the story should be shaped, followed by the rough sketches which captured the flow. Translating those into detailed storyboards was rewarding but challenging-especially refining the timing and spacing to make movements feel natural. With more and more frames added, the animation started to come alive, but with the technical issues involved, such as system crashes, this process was irritating. Despite these obstacles, seeing the final animation for the first time, sound and music and all, was a particularly rewarding experience.

Observation

Visual references became a guiding light, offering clarity and inspiration throughout. It was the sense of direction provided by sketching thumbnails and seeing the storyboards come alive in motion that was a moment of creative triumph. Adjusting frame timing showed how small changes could evoke big emotional shifts but also how much patience and precision animation demands.

Findings

This project really forced planning and adjustment. Every frame counted, and it is in those setbacks that certain scenes were even improved. Useful feedback for scene enhancements showed that refinement might just be what is needed to bring the story even higher. All in all, it's been a journey from rough sketches to a polished animatic of perseverance and the joy in bringing a vision to life.
