INSTRUCTION

Project 1_

This group project required the creation of a basic video animation based on our FLIP research topic. Using a structured design framework, the goal was to present information engagingly to a target audience while focusing on one of three objectives:

  1. Creating awareness (e.g., global warming, recycling, cybersecurity)
  2. Explaining a process (e.g., how-to videos)
  3. Defining a concept (e.g., what is fast fashion, what is the color wheel)

The animation had to integrate photography, vector imagery, and sound while adhering to principles of organization, aesthetics, and cognition.

HERE ARE THE TEAM MEMBERS

We created a whatsapp group and discussed all the processes together:

  • Rachel Yeo Rong Qing (Group Leader)
  • Jia Wen Bing
  • Ruthlene Chua Zhen Si (Me;))
  • Liu Zi Yu
  • Tan Jie Ying
  • Isabel Tan Xen Wern
  • Nadhrah Binti Abdul Razak
  • Myra Elida Binti Abd Azis

Project Progress

Week 1: Topic Selection
Each member suggested a topic: women’s safety, cybersecurity, child safety, deforestation, pollution, etc. The group voted and shortlisted three topics: women’s safety, cybersecurity, and child safety. After consultation with Mr. Shamsul, cybersecurity was selected as the final topic with a focus on scams. A Google Doc was created for research compilation.

Week 2: Research & Presentation Preparation
  • Each member was assigned:
    • Introduction
    • One problem statement
    • One case study
    • Research was compiled in a shared document.

Rachel divided the tasks for the FLIP presentation slides.
  • Individual selections:
    • Target audience – Chosen by one of the members
    • Objective of the video – Chosen by another member
Week 3: Presentation

The online presentation was conducted during the lecture. A brief voice call was held before presenting to ensure smooth delivery.

Week 4: Moodboard & Storyboarding

Jie Ying created the moodboard.

The storyboard was drafted: The opening scene showed victims being scammed. The video transitioned into cybersecurity education.

Week 6: Task Distribution for Animation Production
  • Roles were assigned as follows:
    1. Scriptwriter – Myra
    2. Voiceover – Tan Jie Ying, Nadhrah
    3. Background Music & Sound Effects – Isabel
    4. Animation – Rachel, Ruth, Liu Zi Yu, Jia Wen Bing

My role is to add subtitles and transitions to the entire video to enhance audience understanding. The subtitles ensure clarity, allowing viewers to refer to them if anything is unclear.

FEEDBACKS
The target audience was finalized as elderly people, based on the lecturer's feedback.

Week 7: Final recordings were uploaded to Google Drive.
Final Submission: The completed animation was compiled and submitted.

REFLECTION

Experience
Managing workload with multiple assignments due simultaneously created time constraints. Communication difficulties arose within the team, and some members had limited engagement. Last-minute script adjustments led to rushed voiceovers, affecting the final audio quality. Excessive content caused the video to exceed the time limit, leading to an artificial speed-up of narration, which reduced clarity.

Observation
Clear communication and active participation played a crucial role in maintaining workflow. Constant checking and feedback were necessary to ensure steady progress. Prioritizing quality over speed and quantity significantly impacted the final outcome. Effective storytelling and structuring of information visually enhanced engagement and comprehension.

Findings
This project provided valuable insights into animation production, collaboration, and information design. It reinforced key infographic principles that will be beneficial for future projects. The experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, structured planning, and maintaining a balance between information density and clarity in animated content.
