Project 2_Channel Bumper

For this task, we are told to use the knowledge from Task 1 to create an abstract channel bumper by developing a concept for a fictional or existing channel, designing a mood board, style guide, storyboard animatics, and synchronized audio, while starting with sketches, exploring ideas through software, and presenting a polished final design in the required format. Before starting the entire project, we are told to come out with a storyboard first.

Pdf file 1.0: Storyboard

For this project, I chose Tiffany & Co. as the branding because I’ve admired their jewelry for a long time, especially due to the intricate designs. I started by creating a mood board to guide the concept. Before start to do the composition, I drew few of elements for the project and trying to import them into the composition.

I then found some interesting motion graphic transitions and applied them to the project. Thanks to my previous work, I used the balance principle in the opening. I also added splash effects to the text to give it a pop-up, appealing effect. Once the composition was complete, I combined everything into a final composition.

I found a necklace online, which was a Tiffany & Co. piece. To better fit the composition, I removed the background of the necklace using Photoshop.

I planned to make a special appearance, so I searched for a 3D model online and designed a ring inspired by Tiffany & Co.’s Sixteen Stone Ring.

After selecting a model from the website, I downloaded it and made adjustments to the design colors. I also recorded the 3D movements to use in the next step of the project.

The image below shows what I aimed for, but due to my unfamiliarity with 3D techniques, I couldn't create a model that closely resembled the original.

After completing the modeling and editing in Photoshop, I imported all the elements into After Effects. I then arranged them and applied various effects to the composition.

Lastly, I added the phrase "Since 1837" at the end to highlight the brand's rich history. This emphasizes Tiffany & Co.'s legacy and showcases its mature technology, ensuring that every customer enjoys the best possible experience with their exquisite jewelry.

REFLECTION

Experience

For this project, I chose Tiffany & Co. because I’ve always admired their jewelry designs. I began by creating a mood board to set the tone and then sketched the necessary elements in Illustrator. Using motion graphic transitions, I added effects like a bouncing ball and splash effects to make the text stand out. After combining everything, the composition came together.

Observation

I learned how important it is to balance creativity with technical skills. Working with 3D elements was a challenge, especially since I wasn’t familiar with 3D modeling. I found a suitable ring model online, made some adjustments, and imported it into After Effects. Adding the text “Since 1837” helped reinforce Tiffany & Co.'s legacy and highlight the brand's quality.

Findings

This project taught me a lot about combining design techniques and different kinds of software . Even though I struggled with 3D modeling, I realized how motion graphics can bring a brand's identity to life.
